TUI names most popular summer resorts
Turkey has ranked as TUI’s third most popular holiday destination for Europeans this summer, behind Spain and Greece.
The operator said the Eastern Mediterranean country was in the five most booked TUI destinations in 11 of its markets, including the UK.
The other two are Italy, followed by Cyprus in fifth place.
Looking at bookings just from the UK, Spain – and particularly the ‘Love Island’ of Majorca – is still the most popular TUI destination, followed by Greece and Cyprus. Turkey is in further place, followed by Mexico.
In contrast, Morocco is one of the top five destinations for the French, while the Polish favour Bulgaria and Croatia is popular with Austrians. Only the Brits and the Dutch favour long-haul destinations, with the Dutch choosing Curacao over Cancun.
The Germans are the only Europeans whose own country appears in their top five places to holiday this summer.
Other destinations in favour with the Brits this year, according to TUI, are Tenerife, Ibiza and Paphos. In Turkey, Antalya is the most popular resort while the islands of Crete, Rhodes and Kos are the top choices for holidays in Greece.
As bookings from the UK have slowed due to the sunny weather and the England team reaching the semi-finals, TUI claims it is offering peak summer holidays at off-peak prices including: seven nights in Cancun from £1,511, departing on August 3; seven nights half-board in a 4T hotel in Majorca for £742 per person, departing on August 4; and seven nights B&B in Crete in a 3T hotel from £782 per person, departing on August 2, or seven nights in Antalya in an all-inclusive from £853, departing on August 3.
