Macao Is IT&CM China 2017’s Largest Exhibition Destination
Destination Macao, fronted by Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM), returned to IT&CM China 2017 as the largest exhibiting destination on the show floor. They were also the only destination to host a dinner exclusively for invited buyers on the 22nd of March, taking advantage of one of the show’s many captive networking sessions.
Acknowledging IT&CM China’s value proposition as an effective platform in promoting China to the World and the World to China, Mainland China and in particular Shanghai, has been a primary market for MICE and corporate business opportunities for IPIM. This propelled IPIM’s decision to leverage on IT&CM China 2017 which shared an expanded hall space with Corporate Travel conference CTW China for the very first time, to target these segments.
Elaborated Irene Va Kuan Lau, Executive Director, IPIM, “As we have already started to tap into the market with great success, we aim to generate new business leads and further strengthen our knowledge and network through IT&CM China. Macao’s recent infrastructure development and growth can now accommodate the largest MICE groups out of Mainland China, creating even grander possibilities with Macao’s selection of facilities.”
Macao’s government recently launched two subvention programmes to accommodate the booming MICE industry and to better serve the needs of event owners and organisers. Both support programmes cover a range of eligible subsidies for event expenses, such as accommodation, food & beverage, speaker hosting, marketing promotion, and official event ceremonies.
What makes Macao unique as a tourism hotspot are the flashy hotel and casino strips that are popular places of interest. New integrated hotels are in the pipeline starting with the redevelopment of Wynn Palace and The Parisian Macao. Still to come in 2018, the MGM COTAI (offering 1,400 rooms and suites, meeting space, boutique spas, retail and food & beverage outlets as well as the first International Mansion at MGM for the ultimate luxury experience); Morpheus, a new flagship hotel for the City of Dreams complex (780 hotel rooms, entertainment, international dining options, designer brands); and Grand Lisboa Palace consisting of two hotel wings – Grand Lisboa Palace Hotel and Palazzo Versace Macau (a collective 521,435 square metres with 77,158 square metres of parking, and a multi-purpose theatre).
Through their hosted dinner, IPIM promoted themselves as a one-stop service provider for MICE while introducing the available support programmes and services that can be customised towards each event. Said Irene, “Macao’s promotional dinner was the perfect targeted platform to get our destination message across to key Chinese buyers. We are looking forward to getting to know corporate and incentive buyers and their needs so that we can better fulfil them.”
At IT&CM China 2017, Macao displayed 31 co-exhibitors under their pavilion encompassing venues, hotels, PCOs and DMCs, showcasing the destination’s capabilities in hosting events of any scale. Interested buyers had the chance to learn about the many facilities and attractions that may be suitable for their upcoming events.
